…celebrates increase in milk production
The Zimbabwe Association of Dairy Farmers (ZADF) members continue to be motivated and inspired to increase milk production through the support from Government programmes, private sector and development partner interventions despite some persistent challenges.
Last year, dairy farmers managed to produce 91 million liters of milk, up from 79.6 million in 2021, according to ZADF Matabeleland Regional Chairperson, Mr Alex Dando.
Mr Dando was addressing the 2023 World Milk Day Celebrations held on June 1 in Bulawayo.
The World Milk Day was established in 2001, by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector.
FAO estimates that the dairy industry supports more than one billion livelihoods and that more than six billion people around the world eat dairy products.
Each year since, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people.
This year the World Milk Day focused on showcasing how dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing nutritious foods and livelihoods.
