NetOne, Zimbabwe’s leading mobile network operator, stole the hearts of many farmers at the ongoing Zimbabwe Agriculture Show (ZAS) with its Animal Tracking technology leading the way in showing how integrating technology into agriculture can revolutionize the industry.
The Animal Tracking technology is important especially at a time when ruthless rustlers are costing livestock farmers’ bottom line, as on average, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Anti-Stock Theft Unit, between 5 000 and 10 000 cases of livestock theft are reported each year in the country.
NetOne’s animal trackers offer real-time location monitoring livestock movement adding an extra layer of security with all the information available through a user-friendly smartphone app.
Added to that, with the geo-fencing feature, a farmer is also able to get alerts if livestock wanders off into restricted areas.
“Our presence at the Agriculture Show underpins how integrating technology into agriculture can revolutionize the industry, making processes more efficient, sustainable, and ultimately more profitable,” said Tatenda Makumborenga, NetOne’s Acting Head Marketing and Public Relations.
“The issue in farming, is about the yield, leakages, and the management of information.
The technologies that we are offering address these issues from planting and
harvesting to monitoring crop health,” added Makumborenga.
The 2024 edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS), the premier agricultural exhibition in the country is expected to draw over 250, 000 visitors, but the numbers could rise due to the “improved economic enthusiasm and significant strides in food self-sufficiency over the past few years”, according to ZAS Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andrew Matibiri.
The show is running under the theme “Cultivating Prosperity. Growing Business. Innovating for Change. Nurturing our Future”.
NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, said the leading operator was exhibiting at the show to showcase the diverse range of technologies on display and the implications for the future of agriculture in Zimbabwe.
“We also have Smart Office and Smart Home Solutions that can revolutionize the way we interact with our home devices, riding on the Internet of Things (IoTs). As mind-blowing as it may seem, this is the new reality and we are here to usher Zimbabweans there,” said Eng Mushanawani.
Hardly any visitors passed without entertaining the technological displays by NetOne with a number of farmers also showing interest in the agriculture related technologies.
NetOne’s vision is to be Zimbabwe’s leading provider of sustainable and inclusive digital solutions with its mission being to develop communities and transform lives through digital solutions.
True to its vision and mission, NetOne brought a futuristic twist to the agricultural show with jaw-dropping technology displays
“If you thought the Zimbabwe Agriculture Show was all about tractors and crop yields, think again,” according to the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Learnmore Musunda.
