BULAWAYO – The environmental vision championed by Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, continues to inspire collective action towards cleaner, smarter and more dignified communities, as NetOne Cellular joins faith-based organisations in Bulawayo in advancing environmental stewardship and responsible citizenship.
Her Excellency’s advocacy goes beyond conventional clean-up exercises, promoting a culture where Zimbabweans take pride in the places they live, work and conduct business. Anchored in the African philosophy of Ubuntu/Unhu, the vision emphasises that cleanliness reflects our identity, dignity and shared responsibility. It also challenges communities to reject indiscriminate littering, vandalism of waste bins and the neglect of public spaces.
In support of this vision, churches operating under the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations have mobilised communities through the Bulawayo Churches Clean-Up Drive, covering Mpopoma, Sauerstown, Tshabalala and the Central Business District.
NetOne has been invited to participate in the initiative’s anniversary commemorations on 6 November 2026, reinforcing the importance of bringing faith-based institutions, businesses and communities together in environmental protection.
The initiative complements the National Clean-Up Campaign introduced by His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in December 2018, which continues to provide a national platform for environmental awareness, collective responsibility and sustainable community development.
As part of its 30th anniversary commemorations, NetOne is expanding its environmental activities across Chinhoyi, Bindura, Harare, Chitungwiza, Bulawayo, Zvishavane, Mutare and Masvingo, demonstrating its commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and the national aspiration of leaving no one and no place behind.
NetOne Spokesperson, Mr Ernest Magadzire, said environmental sustainability requires a fundamental shift in public attitudes and behaviour.
“The vision championed by Her Excellency, the First Lady, reminds us that cleanliness is not simply about collecting litter; it is about restoring dignity, promoting Ubuntu and cultivating pride in our communities. We must protect public infrastructure, discourage littering and ensure that the environments in which we live and work reflect the Zimbabwe we aspire to build.
“As NetOne, we are committed to using our national presence and stakeholder partnerships to inspire lasting behavioural change. Every Zimbabwean must become an ambassador for cleaner, smarter and healthier communities,” said Mr Magadzire.
The participation of churches, Government institutions, local authorities and corporate organisations reinforces the understanding that environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility.
Through these initiatives, NetOne continues to support the environmental aspirations of the Second Republic and Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, recognising that sustainable national development begins with responsible citizens and communities that take pride in their surroundings.
A cleaner Zimbabwe begins with each one of us. Clean communities, proud citizens, a dignified nation.
